At halftime the Bearettes led 33-20. The Tigerettes began to battle back in the third quarter, but each time they got within striking distance Brownsboro would pull away. Brownsboro led 43-37 going into the final quarter. The Bearettes continued to play tough in the final period and held off a late Tigerette scoring flourish to take the important 59-51 win. Coach Gary Ashlock noted that the game was harder than he anticipated. He added that it was a very physical contest and the Tigerettes Ni The Malakoff ninth graders slipped past the Brownsboro Bears 56-53 here January 19. The Tigers got off to a slow start in the game. They only scored 12 points in the opening quarter and com- mitted numerous fouls. The Bears took advantage of the fouls and were leading 16-12 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter showed the Tigers getting warmed up and putting 18 points through the hoop. The Tiger defense only allowed the Bears 15 points. Brownsboro led 31-30 at the half. Malakoff outscored the Bears 36-22 in the second half. Most of the Tiger points came on the shooting of Was Hughes and Gilbert Smith. When the final seconds elapsed the score read Mala- koff 56, Brownsboro 53. Lisa Hughes Obituary "' ::i: :::: Mrs. Peggy Oaldey Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy Oakley of Ennis, for- marly of Malakoff, were held recently at Restland Memo- rial Chapel with the Rev. Dick Moody officiating. Interment was in the Restland Cemetery in Dallas. Mrs. Oakley was born February 11,1933 and was a graduate of Malakoff High School. Survivors include her hus- band, Gilbert Oakley; one son, Todd Oakley; one daugh- ter, Jill Oakley, all of Ennis; her mother, Mrs. Minnie Owens of Malakoff; three brothers. Raymond Owens of Malakoff, Bill Owens of Bay- town, and Herman Owens of Fort Worth: and four sisters, Mrs. Frances Johnson and Mrs. Maxine Reid, both of Dallas, Mrs. Norsine Higgin- botham of Garland, and Mrs. Susan Slaton of Winfield. Treasurer Named Henderson County Com- missioners Court named Jennie O'Shaughnessy to fill the unexpired term of county treasurer Maggie Nell Wil- liford, who resigned effective Jan. 31, because she is getting married and moving to Houston. The yearbook staff sent 50 pages and the endsheet design of the 1976 "Tiger" to Taylor Publishing Company, Mon- day, January 19. The staff, under the direction of Thomas O. Wylie, finally moved into its new workroom-darkroom during the Christmas holi- days. Anyone interested in being on the yearbook staff next year should contact Mr. Wylie. The Junior class will be selling the "World's Finest Chocolate Bar" next week, according to junior class sponsor Barbara Stone. Along with the candy comes a coupon which entitles the buyer to $1 off the price of a pizza at Ken's Pizza Parlor in Athens. Profits from the candy sale go toward funding the junior-senior prom. The Tigerettes, varsity, and junior varsity boys will be hosting the Van Vandals, Friday, January 30. The first Jeff DuBoee and friend game begins at 5 p.m. Here's a word of advice for local basketball fans. When you leave you car to attend a game, lock it and pocket the key. We've had numerous and large thefts during previous games. Finally, yours truly isn't going to say much about the outcome of Super Bowl X, but just wait till next year.
