The well, located in a 95-acre lease a half mile southeast of Murchison, has reached the original permitted depth of 10,500 and is nearing the new limit of 11,000. Longview-based Excelsior Oil is the operator. Seeking Travis Peak production, the wildcat was spudded in mid-December. It is a unitized venture in the G.E. Price Survey. The Opelika Field has the nearest commercial production. McFarlane Oil of Houstonhas moved in rig and started a confirmation well which could establish new oil or gas production near the Henderson- Kaufman County line. Drillsite for the No. 2 Newton Williams is in a 58-acre lease 3.75 miles south of Kemp, about 475 feet east of State Hwy. 274. The new operation is approximately 4,000 feet south of McFarlane's No. I Williams which has reached the originally permitted depth of 9,500 feet. The probe is in a 125-acre lease. Williams No. 2 is under permit to probe to 10,000 feet. Both operations are in Kaufman County's Ezekiel Higdon Survey. McFarlane's highly successful John W.
