Add the sugar, still beating a little at a time until you have a shiny meringue. At this point you can add food coloring to make the meringues a delicate pink. For Valentines Day take a small heart mold and draw the outlines for 8 meringue shells on a piece of paper [either brown paper or ungreased paper]. Make meringue shells to fit into these heart shapes, taking your spoon and build up the sides so that they will hold the ice cream. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees, put the meringues on the paper on a cookie sheet and place them in the oven. Turn off the heat immediately. Let them stand for at least 3 hours. The shells will be a delicate pink. This is a new way to make meringues. Don't peek during the time they are in the oven; they're all right. lace doily on a dessert plate, and fill with ice creme, and cover with defrosted sliced strawberries. Or substitute cherry pie filling and spoon a tablespoon of maraschino cherry liqueur over each. RIRIIIIRI Mrs. Price uses this as a special Valentine dessert, but the recipe can be adapted to any occasion and the meringues can be made in other shapes-- try shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day, for instance. She says the best thing about this recipe is that the meringues can be made up many days in advance and will keep beautifully. Work and roll in waxed paper and chill in refrigera- tor. Slice and cook 15 minutes at 350 degrees. MAMIE PRICE, bridge player and cook par excel- lence, shares some of her favorite recipes with us this See 'n' Tell By Lois Williams There is a blue bird flitting around my back yard. There have been cardinals, meadow larks, robins, cedar wax wings, woodpeckers and several unknown species of bird life sharing my lawn in recent weeks, but I never realiy believe they know that spring is on the way. After all, February is still mid-winter and there is a good chance they could be rushing the season and may be forced to fly south again to melt the ice off their tail feathers. But when you see a timid blue bird flashing his Court, Tool and Seven Points City Councils. local business people and helpful citizens, plus hours of hard physical labor volunteered by B&PW members and their handyman husbands. Henderson County Memorial Library-West was opened last year. Since that happy day the little gray house next to the Merle Norman Studio on Highway 274 is becoming a popular stopping place as people become better acquainted with it. Friends of the Library BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 1 cup Crisco [and don't substitute, she says] 3 cups sugar "v00b xjrour adult knows there will be more cold weather before spring really arrives, but with a blue bird encouraging you, the itch to start plant- ing something becomes intense. My attempts to raise a garden or keep even a pot of geraniums healthy have never met with much success. Nevertheless, every year when the blue birds arrive I am compelled to try again. So, I planted two pots of begonia bulbs this week. In my minds eye I can see them in the hanging baskets on my front porch, flourish- ing throughout the summer covered with lqve]y blossoms that will add to the pleasure, of porch sitting. Dreaming is nice, but past experience has taught me that it takes more than wishing to make them come true. I need help, so I decided to visit the little Henderson County Library- West in Seven Points and see if they had a book of instructions for growing perhaps even a brand new building that would offer the community not only a full service library, but additional recreational space as well. At the present time, the library is staffed by volunteers. Cecil Lee acts as the supervisor and is assisted by Judy Coffee, Agnes Woods and several other ladies who generously donate their time. They say the library is especially popular with senior citizens and they have a whole shelf full of books with large type for their older card holders. Young people enjoy the adventure stories and use the reference books to prepare school assignments. I became so interested in browsing through the books and chatting with Cecil I forgot to ask about an instruction book for growing plants but I will go back soon and I did get my outdated library card February ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: CEDAR CREEK VETERINARY Dr. Watt Norman has changed location to HIGHWAY 31 WEST Open 8:30 a.m. to 12, 1 p.m. to 5:30 Sat 8:30 a.m. to 12 Phone 489-0311 OLIVE LEAF Ladies' Apparel & Lady Love Cosmetics Willie Ring Manager-Buyer week in the Cooking Corner.
