best leaders in the state, but it
took a while for others to find it
out.
Mrs. Joyce Lewis, sister-in-law
to J. D. was selected as first al-
ternate to the'State Forum. This
is certainly a high accomplishment
itself. Speaking of our adult lead-
ers, we have a wonderful group of
dedicated volunteer 4-H club adult
leaders in Henderson County who
contribute their time, effort and
money to promote and assist the
4-H club program, and they serve
without pay.
To assist them in reducing their
1964 income taxes we have infor-
mation which lists a number of
items they may claim as chari-
table deduetion~ provided the lead-
e~- itemize their deductions.
Among the items are out of
pocket transportation expense, in-
cluding the cost for use of cars or
trucks to and from 4-H sponsore4
events, necessarily incurred in
rendering donated service to 4-It.
Actual unreimtmrsed expenses
incurred by 4-H adult leaders in
attending contests, training vour~
es, and other 4-H sponsored
events. This includes meals, lodg-
ing and trausportation expenses
while away from home.
Also expen~ for the cost and
maintenance of uniforms and em-
blems required to be worn in per-
forming the volunteer service and
cash contributions and contribu-
tions in kind, such as equipment,
paints and other upplies. The
amount to deduct is the fair ma)-
ket value at the time the gift was
made. No deductions are allow-
able for the time contributed.
Leaders who claim deductions
by itemizing their accounts are en-
couraged to keep accurate records
throughout the year.

The heifer is shaping up real well
