The 5:30 p.m. parade Friday after-
noon will step off the 35th annual FFA
Rodeo to be held in Malakoff.
Performances will be held both
Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m.
with participation from 20 schools in the
Henderson County area expected.
Events will include bull riding,
bareback brones, wild steer saddling
and barrel racing, according to FFA
presidsent Michael Gregory.

One injured
at intersection
accident here
A car-motorcycle accident at the in-
tersection of Hwy. 31 and Hwy. 90 in
Malakoff last Wednesday resulted in in-
juries to Marianne Smalling, 22, of
Trinidad.
The accident occured at 3:40 p.m.,
a~cording to Malakoff Police Chief Don
McCord. Velma Wyatt Welborn, 80, of
Malakoff was driving eastbound on
Hwy. 31 and attempting a north turn on
Hwy, 20, At the same time, traveling
westbound in the outside lane of Hwy.
31, Miss Smalling came into the inter-
section on a 1961 motorcycle.
McCord said that heavy traffic at the
intersection prevented Mrs. Welborn
from seeing Miss Smalllng.
Miss Smalling was transported to
Lakeland Medical Center by East
Texas EMS ambulance.
A request for a left turn signal at the
intersection by the city and the police
department was recently turned down
by the State Highway Department.
Assisting at the scene were Assistant
Chief Mike Echols and Caney City Chief
B. J. Wright.
Patrol checks

The Texas Highway Patrol in-
vestigated 31 rural traffic accidents in
Henderson County during March, 1983,
according to Sergeant Scott, supervisor
for this Highway Patrol Sergeant Area.
These accidents resulted in two deaths
and 17 injuries.
The total rural traffic accidents for
Henderson County for this year is 87,
which have resulted in five deaths and
51 injuries.
The 22 counties which comprise
Highway Patrol District 6A have had a
total of 1337 rural traffic accidents this
year which have resulted in 33 deaths
and 794 injuries. This compares to 1423
accidents, 28 deaths, and 781 injuries
reported during this same period last
year.
Cross Roads sets
kindergarten
Cross Roads Elementary School will
have kindergarten pre-registration
Tuesday, April lgth, from 9 a.m. until 12
noon. They will eat lunch at 11:20 at the
price of 85¢.
Anyone unable to attend that day is
asked to call on or before April 19th to
enroll the child. The number to call is
489-1275.
When pre-registering the child,
parents will need to supply the child's
birth certificate and immunization
record.
