Thtirsday night Lola (Shelton) Welch and I went to the Athens Old Fid- dling She didn't want to go by her self and neither did I, so we went together and had a good time. We saw lots of friends and among them was Viola (Ballard) and her husband Pete from Galveston. She Cross Roads News Notes Clara Jo Davis went to school at Cross Roads. Bobble (Morrison) and Carl Lee Matthews of Rusk, were there and had to leave early because a grandson was to graduate that night. Jonathan Matthews my great nephew, has enlisted in the service for three years and will leave in September. A. D. Carter flew in from California and he to went to school at Cross Roads. Anita Lynn (Casey) Blake has moved back to Cross Roads with her mother, Lola (Shelton) Welch Lynn is a history teacher at college level and she has been teaching at S. M. U. and wants to get away from the busy Rat race. Sunday was Memorial Day at the Willow Springs Cem- etery. It was a good day and had a good finance report. For so many years that cemetery really did need help. More people were there this year in- cluding Nola Mae (Leopard) and her husband Fulton and one of her daughters. I baked this girl's wedding cake and said they are still married. I Don't know how long. That makes me feel good to hear of good mar- riages. Elton Leopard was there and he and sister Nola Mae went tO school at Cross Roads. Elton lives at Tool. It's been a long time since seeing him. Since we have good food and I'm real proud of me now that I'm watching my food intake (Sugar) I didn't eat any banana pudding, peach cobbler or co- conut pie. Woodie (Stone) McMilliam cooks enough to feed every one and said next year she will bring a ham sand- wich for herself and no more. She makes a big pan of chicken and dressing, giblet gravy and cranberry sauce and several more things. She is a good cook and also an ex student of Cross Roads who now lives in Corsicana. I have been on the cemetery board of trustees for several years and this year because I don't feel good I resigned and Nona (Boyd) Kimmery was elected. She has family buried there and is always there. Bro. Joe Smith, pastor to the Sands Springs Baptist is having some very bad health problems and he needs our special prayers. Want to thank my cousin Bill Cogdell for my goodie bag which was left on the porch. He had picked fresh turnip greens and yellow squash. All very good. The Pastor Linda O'Nell pastor of the Cross Roads and Malakoff Methodist Church will be moving this week. Sunday was her last day. Susan Turlington and Matt Burleson I just learned his last name are back from their hon- //J eymoon and they will live close IG,," to Mabank. Pearl Williams went to a me- morial service at the cemetery where her parents are buried, at Ben Wheeler. By Doris Gardenhire Ethelene (Herrington) and a Ok, s o y ou d on' t al 1 friend visited her parents Naomi remember the Earthworm (Harton) and Bill Cogdell of Syndrome. That was a Athens and they were at the column on how to eat, drink, fiddling, and stay healthy. All is well so thanks for read- "Earthworms" is what my ing. dad called us when we [)istrict Attorn,.ys report Donna Bennett, District Attorney reports the January Term, 2002, Grand Jury met on May 22 and 23, 2002, retumed 105 True Bill sand 9 No Bills, including the following: Billy Wayne Chasteen, W/M, 35 of Eustace, charged with Manufacture of a Controlled Substance; Kenneth Ray Buffer, W/M, 38 of Malakoff, charged with DWI; Jeffrey Bud Anding, W/M, 39 of Malakoff, charged with,p0q,. session of Controlled Substance; Aaron Davis, ))M, 53 of Eustace, charged with Theft Over $1,500; Johnnie Parks, W/M, 36 of Trinidad, charged with Posses- sion of Controlled Substance; and" Edwin Dale Rogers, W/M, 43 of Malakoff, charged with Pos- session of Controlled Sub- stance; and Bobby Doyle Getts, W/M, 40 of Malakoff, charged with Pos- session of Controlled Sub- stance. Tra-,00elo 'logy traveled: "Y'all are just like earthworms--all you want to do is eat, drink, and go to the bathroom." The crux was tha't you eat a lot of vegetables (lunch buffet, trail mix in the console) and drink a lot of water (carry an insulated cup and sip constantly). If enough of you ask about it,,we!ll rerun that column. Some perpie recommend eating six ,ueals a day. I personally don't do that, but the principle is the same-- keep your sugar level even. I will say that if you do eat six meals a: dayi makesur' they are only half, as large- as three would be! Some Miscellany: Do you have any Scottish blood in you?
