She was Rulene (Smith} Burkes who now lives in Mesquite but grew up near Kemp in the community of Stubbs. She said she particularly enjoys reading about all her old friends in our recently fattened up Kemp News and just has to get out of the city and come back down here to Cedar Creek Lake country to refresh her soul every now and then. The group settled down to a / fun evening of neighborly chatter and a variety of games ! like bridge, canasta and dominos and I started my usual nosy rounds to see what everyone was doing. I chatted my usual nosy rounds to see everyone was doing. I chatted with several old acquaint- ances I'd met at the AARP picnic and elsewhere, like Essie Clark and her daughter Margie Ackles, Venetia Spann, Tom Stone, Zelda Stewart, and Evelyn East- wood to name just a few. l exchanged "Howdy's" with a flock of new acquaintences too. I found Jewel Lasater heading the kitchen com- mittee. At least half the ladies there seemed to be in and out of the kitchen doing some- thing during the evening. No wonder the food's so good. According to the kitchen chatter, same of that good food was prepared by some of the bachelor-type male members of the club, but 1 couldn't find who thGy were. l kibitzed a canasta game and met Ruby Southwood, A1 and Georgia Jewell, and Elba and Gilbert Blakenship. Then I spied Ezilda Dawson who had a box full of unusual beadwork neckiaces to show me. She said she's a recent retiree and a new member of the 49'ers. Beadwork is her hobby and she showed me a small loom which she was making I an. Indian-type bracelet. That's a very inter- esting time-killer and pro- duces unique and beautiful jewerly items too. Other new friends I made are Mike and Dora Staton, Frank and Louise McGuire and Jim and Barbera Tinsley. Now that Jim Tinsley has a twinkling eye and a develish imp squatting on his shoulder and to prove it he showed me his "Fisherman's Liar's Licsense No. UR21". He claims he's the only resident of Seven Points to have one. I put on my specs and dis- covered that the fine print on it reads: "This license auto- matically revoked upon failure of holder to keep his audience voluntarily spell- bound." Well, I volunteered so I guess that means his license is still valid. Soon after that we left the lively 49'ers to their games. I would have liked to join one of the groups and continued the fun and laugher but I knew if I did, I'd soon be back in that kitchen nibbling the lucious left-overs and my waist line introduced just couldn't afford it. ;hields and Another visiting aple were Jake and gesman..
