Thanks were also expressed to. Faye Franks and Katie Coleman, members of the Ladies Golf Association who helped with the circle holes and distribution of cold drinks during tournament play. Payne Springs Bicentennial 'Busting Out' Bicentennial is "bursting out" all over and Payne Springs is no exception. This small Texas community will have a large Texas celebration in the form of a flag raising ceremony in conjunction with it's annual 4th of July picnic. The ceremony begins at l l a.m. A flag pole, donated to the community by G.D. West, of Hidden Hills Harbor in Payne Springs, will be set up on the grounds near the Community Center. The two flags to be used in the ceremony have historical significance. The United States Flag, which has flown over our nation's capitol, was present. ed to J.W. "Preacher" Hays by former U.S. Congressman Earl Cabell of Dallas. Texas Flag was presented Hays by former gover: John Connally, and has flown over the state capitol. These flags, which Hays has lent for this occasion, were presented to him at a testimonial dinner in his honor on January 28, 1966. Mrs. Doc Brown, of Payne Springs, and "Preacher" Hays are the co-chairpersons, with "Preacher" presiding over the day's activities. The Reverend Charles Woodard will give the invocation and Mrs. Mary Brown Johnson will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. Don Ray, chair- man of the festivals commit- tee of the Mabank Bicenten- nial Commission, will make a few brief remarks. In closing, the Cedar Creek Lake Coast Guard Auxiliary will present the two flags to Allison Smith, Belinda Powell, Jean- ne Brown, and James Brown, the young people who will raise them to flutter in the breeze in honor of our nation's 200 years of independence.
