Smith, Anddrson and Cherokee Counties are now infested with Fire ants and many agricultural products from these counties are now under quarantine, Reynolds said. "Many counties in Texas have imported fire ant popula- tions so great that aerial applications of chemicals have been used to assist in the control of them. The best thing we can do is to not let them get out of hand to start with by reporting and treating each local mound." Henderson County has had no reported mounds of fire ants, Reynolds dis- closed, but pointed out it is important that the Hender- son County study be insti- tuted. If the inspectors find imported fire ants in the county, they will have chemicals with them to treat the infestations right then at no cost to the landowner. Anyone suspecting there are imported fire ants on ]is place, he should report them to the district office in Tyler at 567-6571 or report it to Reynolds at 425-3161 in Eustace after 6 p.m. each day.
