By Loralne Herline Many Cedar Creek Lake visitors stopped their swimming, splashing or picnicing recently long enough to stare in interest, or perhaps even envy at the peculiar sight at or near R.H. Lee Park. And who can blame them? After all, it isn't every day one sees a parachutist and his parachute trying to go back- wards--up instead of down! It seems that Dub Means and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Mocks of Athens enjoy being pulled into the air by a motorboat with their para- chute held taut and air-filled behind them--quite a switch from the usual airy descent from an airplane with unfurled parachute, don't you think? The result is a sport which is not only exciting but also beautiful to watch. The red- and-white parachute con- ErasEs against the light blue sky or the golden sunset. Somehow, picnicing is no longer exciting. Means and the Mesks also tried to ride a kite pulled by a motorboat on their recent visit to the lake, but gusty winds foiled that attempt. The kite wouid begin to ascend and the riders would be whirled back to the water's surface. Yes, Dub Means and Mr. and Mrs. Meeks have created a great interest in their intriguing sport. Perhaps they have found, as many have sought, their Own little bit of heaven on earth -at the Pantsuits PRICI00 end of a ski rope far above thelake,s surface. CARROLL & LEHR Funeral Home Getting The Parachute Ready For Another Thrilling Ride County Oil, Gas Production Worth Note The production of crude oil and natural gas in 1974 continued to have a signifi- cant impact on the economy of Henderson County, with the estimated value of the county's production, royalty payments, and state sever- ance taxes reaching new highs. Henderson was one of 197 counties--an increase of four* from 1973--which produced oil and gas valued in excess of $100,000 in a year which saw the total value of state production jump from just over $6.7 billion to almost $11.4 billion. The county ranked 33rd in the state in the total value of petroleum produced--S87.4 million-with $70.4 million of that coming from the sale of 10 million barrels of crude oil; $17 million from the sale of 58.2 million MCF of natural gas. This study by the Texas Mid-Copntinent Oil & Gas Association shows al.;o that the county's petroleum pro- duction last year resulted in the payment of $10.9 million to royalty owners. "These figures, whether considered statewide or indi- vidually in almost 80 percent of Texas' 254 counties, emphasize the importance of a healthy petroleum industry in the nation's No. 1 energy state," said Sherman Hunt, a Dallas independent oil man who is president of Texas Mid-Continent. The survey also shows that the State of Texas received $4.5 million in production taxes from county wells, with $3.2 million coming from crude oil output and $1.3 million from natural gas pro- duction. Oil and gas developers and producers spent an estimated $I.8 million drilling 11 wells in the county last year, with 48.9 percent of that fgure lost in six dry holes. The total county in 1974 and shared a payroll totaling $3.3 million. 351 oil employes drilling yielded two oil wells and throe gas wells. The exploratory effort in the county included the drilling of Processing plants also eight wildcat wells seeking added to the county's new oil and gas fields, petroleum-related economy: The "Oil and Gas Journal" According to the Texas lists three natural gasoline Employment Commission, processing plants, with a and gas industry daily capacity of 314.0 million worked in the cubic feet.
