Friday, July 31,2015 - The News -Page 3 Special to The News CEDAR CREEK LAKE-The Rootseekers Genealogical Society are always eager to hear mem- ber Bob Stokes give a talk. He and his wife, Pat, came all the way from the Dal- las area so he could tell us about how to use Google Image. Bob got interested in Google Image when his grandson, Keenan, who at the time was studying at the Moscow State Univer- sity in Russia, sent him some pictures of Moscow. The only problem the grandson did not say what the pictures were of. Bob says its the same thing as face recognition. when the computer looks at the most distinguishing characteristics of the face, eyes, nose, chin, ears and so on. Buildings, rivers. mountains, bridges also. COURTESY PHOTO Rootseeker member Bob Stokes (left) receives an Award of Appreciation for all the years of hard work in the organization from first V.P. Bob goes to Google and in the top right - hand comer it says "image", he clicks on it and a camera image ap- pears in the search bar in- dicating that G0ogle is ready to search for an im- age. Now he has to drag the picture image to the Google search bar. He may get as many as 16 similar images and then its up to him to choose the .right one. Bob's picture tumed out be Saint Basil's Cathe- dral on Red Square. Most of us have never noticed the Image on the Google search page. This is such an amazing thing and we are so glad Bob shares his knowledge with us. Bob Stokes has been a faithful member of Rootseekers for 19 years. Bob taught English in Waco and Dallas before his appointment as assis- tant principal of W.W. Samuel and Hillcrest High Schools. He was As- sistant Director of Sec- ondary Schools and Deputy Assistant Superin- tendent In Charge Of All Data Processing Services for the district. In 1982 he received the Premier Prin- cipal Award given by the Texas Congress of Par- ents and Teachers and in 1983 the honorary "Keeper of the Dream Award" for his contribu- tion to public education.
