This is a one-time payment and may be added to or dropped after the 2001-2002 budget year. Any employee not on a dis- trict pay scale or state scale received a 3% across the board raise. The Superintendent was basking in the reflection of the district's improved perfor- mance in the state's account- ability system. This year, for the first time, two out of the three Malakoff schools rated by the state, were given a "Recognized" rating. To achieve that level of account- ability, 80% of a school's population must pass each section of the Texas Assess- ment of Academic Skills (TAAS) and have a dropout rate of 3% or less. The dis- trict overall got an "Academi- cally Acceptable" ranking. In a statement, Rose said: "The District and the elemen- tary campus missed getting recognized status by only a small margin in two sub- populations in the 3 d grade math category." He promised effqrts in the coming year to improve the rating and thanked the school board and community for their support. The Board had its own kudos to pass out at the meeting. Members presented Malakoff News Publisher Loretta Humble with a cer- tificate naming her to the Media Honor Roll of the Texas Association of School Boards. The program honors individuals or "fair and bal- anced reporting of news about public schools."
