up from $53,120.01 in 1976 to

Bullock said his office
mailed checks Monday, Aug.
15 totaling $15.1 million to 868
Texas cities. The August
checks bring to $206-million
the total the cities have netted
this year from the sales tax.
Bullock said the increase in
city sales tax rebates, which
is a healthy 19 percent, is a
double blessing•
"It signals the continuing
vigor of the Texas economy
and at the same time provides
badly needed revenue to Tex-
as cities," the Texas comp-
troller said.
Enchanted Oaks Council
Seeks New Sewage Plant
Negotiations for a sewage
treatment system for the City
of Enchanted Oaks have been
underway during recent
meetings of the Enchanted
Oaks city council.
Developers of Indian Har
bur, a subdivision adjacent to
Enchanted Oaks, has in-
stalled a central sewage sys-
tem with the capacity for
treating effluent from 500
residences.
In earlier conversations the
representatives of Indian
Land, Co., and the Enchanted
Oaks city fathers entered into
a tentative agreement to have
the system serve both areas.
Recent discussions have re-
sulted in an agreement to
have the Indian Harbor sys-
tem purchased by Fred
Engle, owner and operator of
Alexia Water Co.
Alexia. which now supplies
water to Enchanted Oaks,
will eventually be responsi-
ble for both water and sewer
systems for both the city of
Enchanted Oaks and the new
Indian Harbor subdivision.
Dung White, mayor of En-
chanted Oaks, said he and the
members of the city council
had talked to a number of
residents of the city and
results showed 80 in favor of
the new central sewage sys-
tem, and only one person
opposed.
White said there will be an
approximate cost of $575 per
residence to tie on to the new
sewer system, plus an esti-
mated $150 for a pump. There
will be a monthly charge of
$5.10 for thescrUnch, he said,.
White estimated that the
system should be completed
and in use by the first of the
yar.
The mayor said the sewage
system has been a priority
item for the council because
ot several warnings from the
Texas Water Quality Board
that the present use of septic
tanks must be discontinued.
The Enchanted Oaks city
council meets the second
Friday of each month, and
will hold its next regular
meeting Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
