Friday, November 21, 2014 - The News - [)age 7 The News Staff Reports ATHENS-Texas Coun- cil of Professors of Educa- tion Leadership College of Education and Psychology interim dean Dr. Wesley Hickey named former Ke- rens Independent School District (ISD) principal and superintendent and Athens ISD interim Superinten- dent Dr. Vance Vaughn as 2014 Reseacher of the Year during a council ceremony in Dallas Sept. 26. Vaughn served as Athens ISD interim superintendent from June to August in 2006 and June-September in 2011. He also served Ke- rens ISD as principal from 1992-95 and superinten- dent from 2001-06. As an associate profes- sor of educational leader- ship, Vaughn teaches prin- cipal and superintendent programs at the University of Texas. Austin State University, an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruc- tion from UT Tyler and a Bachelor's degree in busi- ness administration from Baylor University. He also holds certifications from UT Tyler for business, mathematics, principal and superintendent. Before serving at UT Tyler, Vaughn was a mathemathics teacher, as- sistant principal, principal and superintendent in East Texas. Vaughn's professional research includes public school finance, bond elec- tions and mathematics leadership. His has published nearly 20 peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, one textbook, 15 state and national pre- sentations, five journal ar- ticles, one book chapter and one book. "Dr. Vaughn is a recog- nized scholar within the University of Texas at Tyler and has proven him- self to be a strong re- searcher in educational leadership," Hickey said. "His research provides insights into theoretical and practical nature of educational leadership, as well as creates a strong foundation for his service on the TCPEA Executive Board, Innovation Acad- emy Charter School Board and as a professional ser- vice provider tbr local dis- tricts.
