14A--The Malakoff News, Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1983 Taking large doses of vitamin B-6 can increase your body's need for the vitamin or even poison your nervous system, says nutritionist Marilyn Hauard. The USDA's recommended daily intake for vitamin B-6 is 2 to 4 milligrams, but some people are taking 50 to 500 "mega-doses" of the vitamin, explains Haggard, a specialist with the Texas A&M University System's Malakoff Insurance Agency *Life "k Home *Bonds * Auto ,k Commercial Now representing American I,ife and Avridental Insurance (]o. Medicare Supphqnent I)olicv Malakofl JERRY GARRISON ,18{)-(151 2 Agricultural Extension Service. "Nutritionists have known for some time that vitamin B-6 is toxic at 200 milligrams per day," Haggard "and a study published this month in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that it can poison the nervous system, causing numbness and loss of coordination in arms and legs." There's little danger that anyone eating a nor- mal diet would become deficient in vitamin B-e, since it is found in liver, meat, whole grain cereals and many vegetables People should seek the ad- vice of a physician rather than prescribing vitamin B-6 for themselves, Join Us For with BiUY" Paul.Cain Mimstrms November 27 through December 2 Sunday, 10:30 a.m. 7:00 p.m. Monday Thru Friday 7:00 p.m. 920 E.
