It Friday, November 13th cat day to say the least) the Cedar Creek Lake got it's first taste of win- r 1970. The first freeze -- with and more rain! The weath- er forecast for the following Saturday offered only a 20 per cent chance to clear. As the weather worsened, and sighs of disappointment were heard throughout this East Texas area, the Caney City Chamber of Commerce offered rain checks -- pledging their full efforts to give the promo- t!on the old college try again, come the second Saturday in December which is just one week from tomorrow. The November rain didn't dampen Caney's spirits -- "Win a few, loose a few," Jack Dow- die owner of the Dowdle Drive In Grocery and the Dowdle Service Station told the News. Dowdle had rented stalls to Corsicana, Palestine, Terrell, Jacksonville, Dallas and Kor- ens -- to name only a few -- on Thursday before the first scheduled event. "That's the breaks," Mayor Travis Matthews said, "but we are not giving up- we'll keep up our schedule every second Saturday, by golly, even if it is spring or next sammev, when the elements begin to work in our favor," he continued. The second Saturday event promises antiques, hand made crafts, new items, second hand special finds, cotton candy -- Mayor Travls Matthews gave the property, and the State of Texas has developed this launch, pier and park facility, here in Caney country.
