10A--The Malakoft News, Thursday, Dec, I, 1983 SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE One of the rout teachings of the Bible is "Prepare". We are in this world for only a short period of time, and there is no time to waste. We may, and many intend to, some day, to obey God; but somehow many neglect, put off, procrastinate, and time runs out on them, and they leave this world having never obeyed God. This is sad. There also ere those who have at one time obeyed God, but like Dams in 2 Timothy 4:10, lone back into the world, they too are unprepared. Why will people be so careless with the greatest possession that they have, that is the soul Will you think, act, obey while you have the opportunitfl Jesus is tenderly calling, but you have to make the first move end open the door. The campaign is sponsored by the Texas Commission on alcoholism in cooperation with the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation and the East Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse for its 14- county region. Approximately 55 percent of fatal crashes involve a driver who had been drinking. Last year in Texas there were 36,474 alcohol-related traffic accidents, resulting in 1,066 deaths and 17,429 in- juries. WEEKLY Wheat in some areas of East Texas is beginning to turn a yellow color, says Dr. Sam A. Reeves, Jr., agronomist for the Texas Agricultural Extension Ser- vice. One or more of several major causes may be responsible for the yellowing. The most obvious cause is nitrogen deficiency. If moisture has been plen- tiful and growth good, Reeves says the wheat could have used 40 to 50 pounds of nitrogen already. The solution to this problem is to apply additional nitrogen. A low soft pH will also cause wheat to yellow. SmaLl grains are very sensitive to soilpH. A soil test is the accurate method of determining the pH level in the soil. Reeves cautions that it Mns a long period of time for the limestone to work, so this crop may not get full benefits of the ap- plication. Excessive water can also cause yellowing of wheat. This condition may cause an oxygen deficiency in the soil, thereby starving the plant of this vital element. Wheat planted on a well drained area will seldom have this problem unless heavier than normal rainfall is experienced. Diseases or insects can cause yellowing if the infestation is heavy enough. Greenbugs, aphids and winter grain mites have shown up in some fields. Insect populations should be checked very carefully More applying insecticides.
